I am writng a novel on my computer. Will it be secure even though i have an internet connection? I dont have any firewall except for window vista firewall. Are there ways of adding further protection? Thankyou for your advice.

You're asking about free computer protection, but here's what i want to say you: if you want to be protected as well as it's possible, then stay away from anything that is FREE when it comes to spyware and antivirus. There is a reason why they free. They are NOT good.
Second, you need some of the best software out there. To protect your pc, you'd need not one but at least three programs: an anti-virus, an anti spyware and a firewall. I've been using for quite a long time three programs: Kaspersky AV (www.kaspersky.com), True Sword (http://www.securitystronghold.com/true_s... and Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro (www.agnitum.com). Scan your pc with these programs.
It is the best sofware you need.

No computer is 100% secure - that was proven when hackers got into Equifax's computer system and stole credit info and made fake credit cards with it.
But as long as you have a firewall, it's relatively safe against internet intruders.
