What's *IT Security*?

What's the normal job of someone who has studied Information technology and has a university degree in it?! What does that person do on the computer while at work?!

Information Technology Security.

I have a degree in computer science %26 ton's of cute cirt papers. I would recommend that you start to learn to love linux, learn how to program, learn how a network operates, learn how a network breaks down, learn the various methods used to find the cracks in the security. Basically you are securing data, it's storage %26 transmission.

Just remember that you really need experience to be effective in this field. A paper dragon or anyone else who hasn't really been in the field very long might find at crunch time their lack of knowledge a big problem. So I suggest that while learning you intern at a security/networking company to get some experience.

As for what you do all day is varied depending upon the needs of the client/employer. The duties are anything from the norm to full blown firedrills.

Here's a link to some info on the various certs:

I am currently getting my degree in network administration make sure the data on the servers is ok, no network intrusions, monitor income/outgoing traffic on the network learn to stop something that is specious.
IT Security is all about CIA. CIA = Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability. I'd also add non-repudiation to that, but then the acronym doesn't make as much sense...
