Computer problem?

my mother in law always gets booted off the internet from her server every 4 hours and sometimes we play for a long time on weekends does anyone know how she can change it they told her they do it for security reasons but there must be a way to stop it it is very annoying sometimes and advice would be great thanks

The ISP is not worries abot security, they are conserving bandwidth. when people are on for short periods of time they tend not to download large files unless they are on cable or braodband DSL wich can handle these downloads quickly. if you are on a limited server or if you are on dialup then by booting you off every few hours you must reconnect. this allows them to redirect you to a server with less traffic. this takes the load off of the servers and keeps them from being backed up to much and also stops people from downloading huge files or programs that would tie up lots of bandwidth on dialup services or small networks wich have limited access pionts in any given area.

There is no way to change this setting, it is set on the servers of the ISP company. they are global settings and cannot be changed for just 1 computer. the only solution is to get a different ISP.

The connection timeout is set on the router/gateway and not the computer. Can't be changed without access to the router/gateway.
